Compatible Devices: Further Information

This article explains in greater detail information about the compatibility of devices with Cozmo. It is meant to supplement this List of Compatible Devices.

What is the general rule for device compatibility?

The vast majority of devices that can download our App from their respective app store are likely to support all aspects of Cozmo.

If you can use your device to search for, find, and download the App in the Apple App Store, the Google Play store, or the Amazon Appstore that device is very likely to be compatible with Cozmo.

Please be aware that because of the significant number of different models, variants, and manufacturing standards of available devices, DDL can only assure the compatibility of devices that we actively test internally. A list of compatible devices can be found here.

What if my device cannot find and download the App?

You’ve used your device to search for, but cannot find and download the App from the Apple App Store, the Google Play store, or the Amazon Appstore locations.

This means that your device is known to not support Cozmo. Either it does not meet a specific requirement, or we’ve have specifically disabled it because there were problems that we could not fix or workaround.

What devices does DDL know do not work?

Note: By its nature, this list is incomplete and subject to change at any time and without notice.

All of the following devices are known to DDL to have failed compatibility testing with the Cozmo app.  They are fundamentally incompatible with our products. DDL strongly recommends that you do not attempt to use these products with ours.

  • Jailbroken, rooted, or running custom ROMs
  • Running a Beta operating system
  • Installed on external memory (SD Cards, USB, etc.)

DDL apps are only supported on devices running officially released builds provided by their manufacturer and installed on internal memory.

Other devices that should be compatible

While DDL does not actively test the following devices, if you own one and it is running at least iOS 9.3.5, Android 5 (Lollipop), or Fire OS 5.6, it will likely work as expected with Cozmo.

These devices are not being actively tested, but we are confident that they should work well with Cozmo.

Apple iPhone 7 Plus

Samsung Galaxy S5 (excluding Mini / Neo range)

Apple iPad Air 2

Samsung Galaxy S4 (excluding Mini range)

Apple iPad Air

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge

Apple iPad 3

Galaxy Note 3 (excluding Neo range)

What are the Minimum Requirements?

In general, for a device to potentially work, it needs to meet or exceed both of these Software and Hardware Requirements.

Software

  • iOS 9
  • Android 5 (Lollipop)
  • Fire OS 5

Is there anything else to try if a device cannot find the App in any app store?

If you are using an Android device or an Amazon Kindle Fire OS device and they are not listed anywhere on this page and your unable to download the Cozmo app from the app store, you can try using the COZMO: APK for Unsupported Devices.

This .apk file will install on both Android and Fire OS devices.

Please note that we try to update and revise this article as often as possible, given the significant number of currently available and new devices, Android operating system versions with manufacturer customization, the specifics in this article may become out of date.
